The discussion on the future of English exists many possibilities.
From previous decades, English has become a dialect in Old English period and
turn into a global language at present time. The prospect of English will
approach a new section under globalization, which is a mixture of different new
particular varieties. There will be two parts to discuss in this paper. In the first section of this essay, there will
be an interpretation considered on the phenomenon of Englishes arisen. The
second section of the essay will examine the segmentation of English occurred in
view of different varieties of Englishes with local elements embedded lead to
unintelligible language.

Finally, an overview will be made of the
development of both two parts to further an extensive insight of the
transformation of English.
To be
convinced by my claim, the background knowledge of English in the current
situation is presented. According to a linguistic professor (Crystal, 2010),
claimed that there are over 60 new varieties occur from earlier decades and
predicted the number of people who speak English as a first language around 400
million and the calculation of 800 million people who look for English as a second
language approximately. Another fact is the population of L1 speakers is much
less than the L2 and EFL speakers. (Graddol, 1997). To decide the future of
English, one of the most important measurements depend on the amount of
population. The biggest number of a group of people who speaks English will be
the most influential. Therefore, the future of English will no longer be the
dominant language of United Kingdom or America.  From an economic
aspect, globalization refers to the process by which business develop
international influence. Due to the rise of globalization and the advancement
of internet and technology, the young generation gain more chance to go
overseas for exchange program or travel aboard. The interaction between each countries
will increase and helps retaining mobility and boost up the information
exchange through spoken communication.  As
the fact that English as a lingua franca, people obviously use it as the medium
of communication. During the process of global trading, people would learn to
adopt English and regulate into their own distinctive language. In other words,
they mix up their own mother tongue into English via glocalization hereafter
put their local elements based on their different cultural background. When the
time has come, a new variety will naturally occur.  The second reason is related to the language identity that generally people carry
a negative attitude toward English. The
community favor their unique way of language
features, in order to represent their social identity. Nowadays, English has
developed into distinct varieties such as Singaporean English (Singlish), Chinese
English (Chinglish) and Indian English (Hinglish). They
carry distinguishing grammar, accents and vocabulary which contains a huge
amount of local elements. With regard to a YouTube video, the Singaporean girl
said “I love Singlish. I’m very proud of it.” (Luvi L, 2013) Based on the fact
that language reflected the identity of a person, it will be continuing in the
later following decades as language is closely related to identities of the
speakers.  Another example can be looked into the
case of India. On an average, Indian English speakers are approximately 400 million+
and they adapt the standard American English combined with their ethnic identity
and nature as it called culture adaptations. (Kim, 2001 pp.15-19)  For instance, they would speak present
continuous tense to state a fact. ‘You are wanting…’, ‘I am thinking’ instead of
‘you want’ and ‘I think’ to utilize their sort of romance. Moreover, as there
are no such accurate terms or vocabularies to describe the objects local food
like ‘chai’ means milk tea, ‘roti’ refers to a type of particular main dish in
India which is made of wheat. And eventually, more code-mixing or
code-switching will be happened in the spoken discourse because of no such
terms to replace the alike manner.  Regarding with the global tourism, that
takes place around the world people tend to stay longer in many countries which
result in interaction with the local people more in English as both the tourist
and the local doesn’t understand each other languages. This result in a new
type of English as they tend to understand the different meaning of the same
words. For example: In South Africa, people would say “Look out! There is a
robot ahead” or like “Look out there are three robots ahead” which practically
means that they are referring to the traffic lights that are there on the road
crossings. (Full Circle Brussels, 2015) This further signifies that in future the
global tourism business will be large so people will tend to do more short and
long travels around the world they will tend to interact more with the local
people of the country they are visiting and will use English to interact since
both of them are from different places, they will use their own country’s
English and eventually it will lead to a new variety of English that both of
them are comfortable to understand.

Furthermore, the future English will expand the usage of vocabularies.
According to Oxford dictionary, there are blend new words added into the
collection such as ‘Bling’ which is a
noun means pricey, flowery clothing and jewelry, abbreviation like ‘Obvs’ which
is an adverb refer back to Obviously and ‘lol’ means laugh out loud. (Lucas, 2018)
It shows how English is transforming in everyday. The new forms of Englishes
are fast-growing due to technology innovations. In forthcoming years, there
will be more newly-produced words and phrases.
