“Technology is killing jobs and only technology can save them.” – Brian Heater Technology makes life easier and controls today’s society, but may be bad for job fields by replacing them everyday. We may never know how much technology will take over our lives. The advancement of technology has replaced many jobs, but some can’t be replaced with artificial intelligence because they require human characteristics. Technology has been replacing jobs for more than a century. It all started in the Industrial Revolution.
Machinery took over the common man’s job. In the 18th century, fears over the impact of machinery on jobs intensified with the growth of population. Unemployment increased at the time. Manufacturing became easier, and there were less casualties. Now living in the 2000’s, technology takes over more and more of our world, because of the effects of the Industrial Revolution.
In the 21st century, more jobs are being altered. Some of them include Bank Tellers, Construction Workers, Farmers, and Taxi Drivers. These jobs make life easier, but with the takeover of technology, many may be unemployed. Self driving cars are being made more often, Bank teller automation is on the rise with new ATM technology, and robots with special design, replace construction workers.
Artificial intelligence changed many fields of work, but, some jobs can’t be automated. Many fields of work require human contact. Some of them include doctors, occupational therapists, teachers, social workers, and psychologists. Doctor’s jobs’s are not the easiest. With the replacement of them they won’t the need to be clever in various aspects of their job. Patients need to be communicated to.
. There are plethora of legal issues that would arise from putting a patient’s life in the hands of a medical robot that might malfunction and make a wrong decision. When people are being treated by therapists they help people improve their ability to perform tasks in their daily working environments. They work with individuals who have conditions that are mentally, physically, developmentally, or emotionally disabling. This profession requires human interaction. Teaching has the lowest chance of being automated because computers would not be able to understand the nuances of music, art and literature, and let alone teach. Social workers have a low chance of being replaced because they deal with people with lots of mental problems, addictions, and substance abuse. This requires a lot of direct interaction with patients.
This should remind us how much we should appreciate human workers. “Technology is killing jobs and only technology can save them.” – Brian Heater The advancement of technology has replaced many jobs, but some can’t be replaced with artificial intelligence because they require human characteristics. I now know the hardships of common everyday workers and also learned how much technology shapes our world.
