No matter how many super heroes you assemble, if they are not the ones for the suitable tasks or if they are at odds with each other, then the powers are of no use. Every great team needs a smart leader who is capable enough to manage such a powerful team.INTRODUCTIONSummary of the movie.

When Loki gets his hands on to the unlimited power of the energy cube called as Tesseract, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) director of S.H.I.E.L.D., initiates an effort of recruiting superheroes so as to defeat the unprecedented threat to Earth.

Joining his dream team are Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).Brief explanation on who these super heroes are and what powers do they possess?Iron Man is a wealthy American business magnate, playboy and ingenious scientist. Anthony Edward “Tony” Stark suffered a severe chest injury during a kidnapping in which his captors attempted to force him to build a weapon of mass destruction. He instead creates a powered suit of armour to save his life and escape captivity. Captain America character wears a costume bearing an American flag motif, and he utilizes a nearly indestructible shield which he throws as a projectile.

Captain America is the alter ego of Steve Rogers, a frail young man enhanced to the peak of human perfection by an experimental serum to aid the United States government’s efforts in World War II. Thor, based on the Norse deity of the same name, is the Asgardian god2of thunder and possesses the enchanted hammer Mjolnir, which grants him the ability to fly and manipulate weather amongst his other superhuman attributes. The Incredible Hulk caught in the blast of gamma radiation, brilliant scientist Bruce Banner is cursed to transform in times of stress into the living engine of destruction known as The Incredible Hulk.Loki is known as the god of mischief and plays the main villain in Avengers. After failing to hold the throne of Asgard, Earth seemed like easy pickings for him as he believes that there are no gods defending it, after all!We can relate many scenes from this movie as an important message on how to be efficient in team management and how to be a good leader. Few of the instances will be shared in the following lines.-The scene where Hawkeye attacks the Helicarrier (the flying aircraft carrier of S.H.

I.E.L.D.) blowing up one of its engine. The flying fortress (as Loki calls it) is losing altitude and on the verge of crashing.

Nick Fury the director of SHIELD directs Iron man to fix the issue knowing his abilities and strengths. A lesson that we can learn here is that the leader should be properly aware of all the qualities and abilities his team possesses not only as a team but also individually so that he can give suitable tasks depending on their abilities. During this scene Captain America and Iron man both are on the move attempting to make the damaged engine work again. Nick Fury and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) face off the onslaught of enemy fire in the main control room as they try their best on keeping the ship airborne.

On the other hand Agent Coulson finds all superheroes being occupied in different tasks he take it up to himself to fight Loki all alone. Thor is engaging Dr.Banner who is now transformed into The Hulk. So the current situation is of the aircraft losing altitude, enemies trying to infiltrate the control room, engines are not responding, Loki has escaped his cell and the worst of them all Hulk is loose on the ship.Situations like these only exist in movies, but the main problem element remains true in real life too. Many times in our life we may get bombarded with difficulties all at once. Our career, family life, health issues and our enemies (Loki) making fun of our downfall.

It gets really difficult for us to take care of the situations and most importantly there is a monster (Hulk) in the form of self-doubt, Low self-esteem and negativity all of this completely lose in our mind. We need to try and take control of the situations one by one depending on the priorities. Nick Fury could have directed all his team members to go attack the enemy at initial stage but that was not the priority as they needed to keep the ship airborne first or it could lead to a major3destruction not only to the people on the ship but also on the land where it would fall on. Hence, he showcased what a true leader should be doing in certain situations like this.

Prioritise your tasks and then form a team depending on the type of task and the abilities of your team members. The above scene suggests that sometimes things may go wrong (they will), so never give up and keep fighting.-Another scene in which the aliens have started to invade and are attacking the city, Captain America goes to the police officer who has made a perimeter to protect the civilians, he suggests them to cordon off the area and move the people in a safe location like subway so as to keep them away from the enemy’s fire. But the police officer questions him why should he listen to him? Then within minutes Captain America is shown fighting alone the aliens with immense power and bravery.

Witnessing this, officer orders his teams to do what Capt. America ordered him few minutes ago.In reality if you are leading a team and things do not fall into part and if fortunately you tend to realise the reason for it. But people in your team would definitely question your next plan of action. Instead of getting into arguments with them it’s better to prove your team members by doing certain things by yourself, as actions mean a lot more than words. Coming that from a leader will be much more significant and will build confidence and trust within the team members. Lesson from this scene is we need to set an example to others, if we want to be taken seriously as a leader or dependable person.

-Split the problem accordingly and working as a team is beneficial than working individually towards a common goal. This can be seen in the scene when Capt. America directs a sketch or a decisive plan to tackle the enemy down. Each of the avenger is given a responsibility and they can achieve the victory if and only if they work together and stick to the plan.In reality no one likes to accept orders from the above especially from someone who you hate or had a fight with (Previously when Thor, Iron Man and Capt. America were in a fight and also Thor and Hulk battling it out on the ship?) But when there is a need to work in a team in order to achieve a common goal then we must forget our internal conflicts and focus on the shared outcome. In every team there are people having a specific sets of skills. All these individual skills can be utilized in a way to get the work done in which the individual is good at.

We must always remember what my goal is, so is my teammate’s goal. We can achieve a shared objective only by team work. In the movie when Capt. America orders Hulk and Thor to constrain the enemies on the ground , Iron-Man and Hawkeye are assigned the task of4engaging flying enemy targets, whereas He and Black widow are trying to close the opened portal. With each of them in their job the problems are divided based on the skill sets of the team members and every other sub problems will be handled by each of them depending on their own talents and skills. To say in a sentence Team work always wins.-Another lesson from the movie is not to be afraid to stand your ground when you now that you are right. Having self-belief is most important for managing a team with such great personalities.

In the scene when Thor takes away Loki from the plane and Iron Man goes behind in search of Loki. Black widow warns Capt. America not to interfere with Thor and Loki as they are the demi gods and have immense power. But captain believes in himself and jumps from the aircraft in search of Loki.

So if you believe in something fight for it as Capt. America with his self-belief was willing to face an opponent stronger than himself.-In another instance during the first half of the movie when the Helicarrier is under attack by the aliens, Nick Fury foresees what could go worst and then tries to reduce the impact of destruction by giving orders to move the ship on the waters so that if one more turbine engine fails then the ship would lose its altitude and fall to ground. In order to decrease the number of casualties he made a very good decision as a director and team manager he showcased leadership skills. Even when his officer tries to tell him that he has lost his navigation system due to the failure of the turbine he smartly asks him is the sun coming up if so then turn it to the left and take it above the waters.

As he has a great presence of mind and has immense knowledge of his current location and nearby places. We can say that a leader should not only have the power to give orders but also the knowledge to use his powers in an effective manner.I would like to mention here the stages of team development and the way it is showcased in the movie.

Nick Fury wanted to assemble a team of superheroes in order to fight the evil. He wanted to see if they could work together when they needed them to, to fight the battles that they never could. This is a part of forming stage.

Often storming follows forming, as the team starts to work together there are personality clashes. Relationship gets fiery and mistrust gets high. There is a little team work and they are normally working in twos or threes. As a result they lose Phil Coulson. After the loss Fury attempts to reunite the group around the avenger’s vision that Coulson had believed so strongly. Gradually, they start to appreciate the special qualities of others in the team, and recognise how they can work better as a team rather than as individuals.

This was the norming stage. Performing happens right at the end. The Avengers spent some time Norming, figuring out each other’s strengths and weaknesses. And then5Captain and Iron Man really start to employ the others and work as a team.

With the task successfully completed, the group breaks up, its purpose fulfilled. And each member feels good about what they have achieved as a team, and their role within it. This is adjourning stage. After visualising the incredible scenes and marvellous performance of the avengers we have many important things to take away from the movie. After a thorough analysis many lessons have already been dealt with in the above paragraphs each referring to individual scenes of the movie. Here I would like to mention few qualities that I have evaluated from the movie which are not directly understood or which might be just my evaluation.

? In the process of building a team with powerful and charismatic personalities like the ones in the avengers, there should be a very strong team management qualities that we must give importance to. In the movie Nick Fury understands each and every team member’s strengths and weaknesses. He likes to play with these skills and the capabilities of the superheroes as he has all the information that he needs to know about them. Even though he is the director of S.H.I.

E.L.D. he doesn’t direct each of his team members he instead gives them the freedom to operate.

He does provide broad guidance but never has he told any of the team member how and when he has to finish his task. It’s important when you are running a powerful team to ask yourself if you are letting the things operate the way your team members are comfortable with or the way you are most comfortable with. There is a huge difference between the two and if it’s the latter one then you need to give up some control. Let your team work according to themselves.? Every superhero or every individual of the avengers’ team had amazing powers. Nick Fury knowingly bought together such a volatile group of superheroes with great abilities and unleashed them on a colossal problem.

He never gave them any plan of action or any engagement rules. He always had trust on the abilities of his team members and their character. Managing such a powerful team and having so much trust that you can let them work on themselves requires an ultimate amount of trust in their abilities as well as on their intentions.

If you need to build a strong team find out if you trust your team members, get to know if your team members trust you.? As a team manager when you lead a highly skilful team it’s important to let your team members speak out their differences. Instead of being a mediator and trying to stop the battle between the team members it’s healthy to sit back and listen to them from a distance as it helps them to realise what each individual is thinking.

If you try to resolve6the issue then you are pushing that conflict below the surface where it might turn into an aggressive discussion. So it’s good to let them talk it out, it will help in clearing the air between them and lead to a better understanding.? Team manager or the leader should take responsibility of the team members and should be ready to have their backs covered at all the times.

We can see that in this movie when the council decides to nuke the entire New York in order to defeat Loki and his army of aliens. Nick Fury says “I recognise the council has made a decision, but given that it’s a stupid assessed decision, I’ve elected to ignore it “He was backing his team of avengers and had complete faith that they had the ability to win any battle any given day. The team manager should stand up for the team and protect them from undue interference.? These are very important things that have to be kept in mind while leading a skilfully powerful team. Managing such a team is an art of managing not only the people but also their skills and abilities. Gaining trust on them is the most important part and vice-versa. A leader is not only a person who has great powers to take actions, a good leader should be a role model, should be an example setter, should have serious intentions of making things work.

Coming to the movie The Avengers there are not surprisingly 3 contenders for the role of leading the avenger team and they are Iron Man (Tony Stark), Capt. America (Steve Rogers) and Thor (Thor Odinson). All three are great characters who show case immense skills and powers but leadership needs something more than just powers and managing such a powerful team of avengers we need to do a good analysis on each of the superheroes.Another superhero once said with great power comes great responsibility. Here we have all three of them having great powers but not everyone can exercise great responsibility. Slightly drifting apart from the Avengers movie if you look into the Iron Man movies we can get a in depth view of his character. Robert Downey Jr.

plays Tony Stark as a billionaire, genius, playboy and a philanthropist. He plays a hard drinker and an aggressively sarcastic man whose talents are only rivalled by his ego. While he has heroic skills but doesn’t connect to us as an act of goodness but rather to inflate his celebrity and improve his family’s legacy.

He is a great hero undoubtedly but his integrity is questionable which is why we can keep him at the bottom of the list.7Likewise Iron Man, Thor is also a powerful super hero but his ego sometimes kept him away from doing things that are morally right. In the Thor movie we can witness him fighting for no reasons but only because he is bored and instead of fighting for something worthwhile. By doing so he puts his entire civilisation at risk. But as the movie progresses he actually learns from his mistakes after all his powers has been taken away by his father.

Someone should have taken Tony Starks suit away and also the arc reactor and Jarvis from him, only then might have redeemed himself. But even after redemption, Thor’s initial arrogance keeps him out of the leadership spot.Speaking about the character played by Chris Evans of Captain America. He is a brave, serious, timeless, to the point and a selfless soldier with an unshakable desire to do what’s right. Even when he takes on the mantle of Captain America, Steve doesn’t let his newfound powers go to his head, instead showing that his greatest strength was always his integrity. Through his extensive military training, Steve Rogers is well-equipped to handle a wide range of battlefield scenarios.

He’s also proven that he can lead men into battle. With his humility and military expertise, Capt. is the best man to lead a team of superheroes into battle. As we come to the conclusion of Capt. America being suitable for the role of leading team avengers we will look what are the main characteristics and important points that a leader should possess.

Few of the qualities are as follows.- If there is a skill you are already good at, don’t be self-admiring instead find opportunities to further furnish those skills. Leverage on your own skills as you would on your teammates so that overall strength and effectiveness of your team increases.- Having integrity as a leader builds a strong bond of trust and belief between you and your team. Improving integrity by interacting and communicating honestly with your team members, even in difficult situations.- Sometimes when you have vision for your team or organisation, it’s always fruitful to share it within the team or organisation and make sure your words and actions are in line with your vision.

– Try not to shift blame or avoid responsibility. If the decision you took turned out negative, acknowledge your mistake and learn from it.- Once you are done with sharing your goals and vision with your team, then lead by example and act in ways that push you towards the goal.

8- Best leaders lead from front and what they do inspires their team, if you show passion for a project that energy will transfer itself to your teammates.- Taking the example of Capt. America, he takes a number of responsible decisions in different movies, like in the first avenger, even before the serum, he jumped on what he thought was a live grenade to save the lives of others. At the end of the movie he made the choice of crashing the plane into the sea to save New York. In the winter soldier when it’s revealed that SHIELD had been infiltrated by hydra, he had no qualms taking down the organisation that he had been working for. Capt. is guided by his integrity and strong convictions when forced to making tough decisions.

– In order to manage a team of powerful personalities one needs to use his/her experience and judgement to make best decisions. Your team will always look up to you for guidance and directions when things are tough so never shy away from taking responsibility.
