Stephen William Hawking is a very famous and smart scientist. He accomplished many things and is very successful.Stephen Hawking had a great family and early life.
He was born in Oxford, England on January 8, 1942, and in 1950, he moved to St Albans, Hertfordshire, where he went to school with his two younger sisters. In 1965, he got married to Jane Wilde and they had two children, but they separated in 1991. Hawking got married again and had one child, and now he also has one grandchild. Stephen Hawking has been almost completely paralyzed since 2009 when he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis which is also called ALS. ALS is a disease in which the nerves controlling muscles are not working and the sensory nerves are, and it prevents him from speaking and walking. Before Hawking was diagnosed with this disease, his speech became slurred and he started dropping items and falling for no reason. To help him with this disease, he uses an adaptive communication system, which is also called an Equalizer, to help him speak and write.
With this system he has written many books, scientific papers, and lectures. To accomplish this, he had to get a good education.Stephen Hawking was well educated as a kid. He was a very smart student in school and was interested in science. He grew up in a very well educated family and was nicknamed “Einstein” in school. Hawking earned a degree in physics from University College, Oxford which both of his parents attended. After college, he studied astronomy and cosmology at Trinity Hall, Cambridge.
In astronomy, he studied black holes and space time theories. Getting a good education really payed off in his later life.Stephen Hawking is very smart and has many careers. He is currently a lecturer and author.
He has written many books. Some of them are called, “A Brief History of Time”, which was a best seller, “The Universe in a Nutshell”, “On the Shoulders of Giants”, and many more. Hawking has been working as the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics since 1997. This position used to be held by Sir Isaac Newton. These careers helped him make scientific discoveries.Stephen Hawking is very famous for his scientific discoveries.
He is known for furthering Einstein’s theory of general relativity with quantum. He is considered a “living legend” because of his contributions to quantum physics. Hawking discovered that matter in the form of radiation, or light, can escape the gravitational force of a collapsed star. This theory is called, “Hawking’s radiation theory”. He earned many awards after this discovery. Afterwards, Hawking worked with a young cosmologist named Roger Penrose who had a theory about the fate of stars and the creation of black holes.
Hawking’s discoveries led to great rewards. Stephen Hawking has received many awards, medals, and praises. He has twelve honorary degrees and was awarded the CBE in 1982. He became a Companion of Honor in 1989. Hawking was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009.
He is a Fellow of The Royal Society and is also a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. Stephen William Hawking is a very well know scientist.
