MODAFINIL Modafinil(commonly known by the brand names Provigil, Alertec, Modavigil etc) is an oral drug that is used to inducewakefulness in patients with sleepiness. It reduces fatigue and enhances alertness in an individual.It is also known as nootropic.

It is usually taken once in a day with orwithout eating your meal. Modafinil is approvedby the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of narcolepsyor Obstructive sleep apnea hyperpnoea syndrome (OSAHS).

Narcolepsyis a chronic disease of the brain and spinal cord characterized by a constant, uncontrollable desire to sleep. Like amphetamines, modafinil promoteswakefulness by stimulating the cerebellum of the brain.            Studies have shown that modafinil can also be useful for treating the symptomsof depression, bipolar disorder, Parkinson’s disease and various otherconditions with fatigue as a symptom. Modafinil is also used as a doping agentby various athletes because of its physicalstimulation property. It has recently gained popularity for its useas a “smartdrug” to improve memory, counteract the desire or needfor sleep, and increase general productivity.

Their intake along with modafinil may cause nervousness, shakiness,and a fast heartbeat.·       This medicine isnot approved for use in children. The chance of deadly skin reactions likeStevens-Johnson syndrome may be raised in children.  IS MODAFINIL SAFE?Modafinil is not addictive and has a low risk ofabuse. In Canada, Modafinilis listed as a Schedule F prescription drug and it can be prescribed for humanand veterinary usage.
