A hydrocarbon gas produced both through naturalsources and human activities, including the decomposition of wastes inlandfills, agriculture, and especially rice cultivation, as well as ruminantdigestion and manure management associated with domestic livestock.”they committee that methane is a much more active greenhousegas than carbon dioxide but luckily it’sfar less abundant in the earth’s atmosphere.Another main greenhouse gas is a Nitrousoxide that the article points out.
Nasa saysthat it is a very strong greenhouse gas “produced by soil cultivationpractices, especially the use of commercial and organic fertilizers, fossilfuel combustion, nitric acid production, and biomass burning”. Nasa also pointsout Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) as being another contributor to the greenhousegas effect. The source of these CFCs isorigins is completely human, and they are very good at destroying the ozonelayer. Which is a layer in the atmospherethat protects us humans from dangerous cosmic rays in the first place.

How do we know it’s human-made. In the NASA article, they say Theplanet’s average surface temperature has risen about 2.0 degrees Fahrenheit(1.1 degrees Celsius) since the late 19th century, a change driven largely byincreased carbon dioxide and other human-made emissions into the atmosphere.
Most of the warming occurred in the past 35 years, with 16 of the 17 warmestyears on record occurring since 2001. Not only was 2016 the warmest year onrecord, but eight of the 12 months that make up the year — from January throughSeptember, with the exception of June — were the warmest on record for thoserespective months.Whyis global warming such a concern?WWF says” Burning fossil fuels, such as coal, oiland natural gas, to generate energy has the greatest impact on the atmospherethan any other single human activity.” They support this statement by stating “Globally, power generationis responsible for about 23 billion tonnes of CO2 emissions per year – inexcess of 700 tonnes every second. Coal is especially damaging to ouratmosphere, releasing 70% more carbon dioxide than natural gas for every unitof energy produced.

The problem isn’t just with ice getting hotter its hot dryplaces getting hotter and drier. 4″The Southwest and Central Plains of the UnitedStates, for example, are expected to experience decades-long”megadroughts” harsher than anything else in human memory. “Thefuture of drought in western North America is likely to be worse than anybodyhas experienced in the history of the United States,”Benjamin Cook, a climate scientist at NASA’s Goddard Institute for SpaceStudies in New York City who published research projecting these droughts in2015,” Live Science reports.Live Science says in theirarticle is that “Subtropical regions, including the Mediterranean, theAmazon, Central America and Indonesia will likely be hardest hit, that studyfound, while South Africa, Mexico, WesternAustralia and California will also dry out” this obviously going to destabilise the ecosystems that live there in anegative way.
Another major concern is extreme weather. These tropical storms are bad for everyone involved. “extremeweather, made worse by climate change, along with the health impacts of burningfossil fuels, has cost the U.S. economy at least $240 billion a year over thepast ten years, a new report has found.
And yet this does not include this pastmonth’s three major hurricanes or 76 wildfires in nine Western states. Thoseeconomic losses alone are estimated to top $300 billion, the report notes.” States TheNational Geographic.5In the article that Live Science produced they say that withthe planet increasing in temperature hurricanes and typhoons are going to getworse. This is because the oceans will evaporate more moisture. A large amount of moisture above oceans is whatcause these elements of mass destructionin the first place. “The International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)predicts that even if the planet diversifies its energy sources and transitionsto a less fossil-fuel intense economy (known as the A1B scenario), tropicalcyclones are likely to be up to 11 percent more intense on average.” This means more destruction especially tothe coastline of countries on the coastline.
Another very bad problem is the acidificationof seawater. “Oceans act as a carbon sink —they absorb dissolved carbon dioxide. That’s not a bad thing for theatmosphere, but it isn’t great for the marine ecosystem. When carbon dioxidereacts with seawater, it leads to a decline in pH, a process known as oceanacidification.”Ocean acidificationis a very bad thing as it will affect the fish and therefore the millions ofpeople who rely on it for food and as their income. What can humans do to tackle climate change? On Individual bases there are a lot of people inthe first world country can do, as they are the highest contributors of greenhouse gases per capita. The best way to stopclimate change is to stop doing what’s causing it in the first place which is realisinggreenhouse gases into the atmosphere. According to a study referenced inPopular Science the things that reduce your Co2 footprint the most are; “having fewer children; living withouta car; avoiding transatlantic flights; and eating a plant-based (mostlyvegetarian) diet.
“12 To really drive this point the articlepoints out that “swapping out your lightbulbswould reduce CO2 emissions by less than .2 tons per year. Living car-free, however? That reduces your CO2emissions by more than 3 tons. Having one less child reduces climate changeimpacts by 120 tons of CO2 emissions per year” says Popular Science.
Another way to reduce co2 emissions drastically is to just unplugdevices. “an average load for a home in the U.S. Audio and videodevices, cordless vacuums and power tools, and other electronics use energyeven when they’re not charging. This “idle load” across all U.S.households adds up to the output of 50 large power plants in the U.
