Meanwhile, a person has a choice to not get deceived on
purpose, they also have the right to decline anything which forces himher from
hisher conscience. A person can also
expect other individuals to stand-up on to
the commitments and abide by the law. Similarly,
in a workplace, the employer expects their employees to perform according to
the organization’s ethics and policies.

Ethics Related Issues in Workplace:

Any actions which do not comply with the rule of conduct implied by the organization is
said to be unethical behavior. Listed are some factors which affect the workplace ethics.

Misuse of Time: Not utilizing
the worktime provided by the companies to
their benefit falls under unethical behavior which must not be tolerated. A company invests time to
the employees in order to get productivity from them and if the employee is
unable to be productive and misuses the time, the act is considered to be
unethical. Misuse of time consists activities such as gathering in mass around the workplace engaged in gossips during the working hours, misusing the
resources provided by the organization, surfing on
the internet without a specific purpose, arriving late to work or
leaving early from the workplace, engaging in the personal job instead of focussing on the work, etc.

Intentional Deception: In a workplace,
on purpose deception concludes taking credit for
someone else’s work, framing sickness to enjoy the leave at home or destroying
work done by others. They are some of the examples
which can cause damage by using an individual’s faith and not respecting their
basic rights. In an organization, these type of activities results in some disputes
which are not healthy for the workplace.

Illegal Activities: Some of the
unethical activities in the workplace might be considered as illegal too.
Supposedly, if an employee gets access to the sensitive data of the organization
such as classified files, financial records, account details, etc could result
in a physical security breach and crimes
like identity theft and accessing the employee’s personal details for own benefit, engaging
in scandals etc. This could result in a huge loss to the organization and the
person with unethical behavior could be fined or shall be considered a criminal
after attempting such illegal act.

Coercion: In other words can be explained
as the action where someone is persuaded by force or threats to perform a task.
Suppose an employee is capable of performing a certain task according to their
skills in a specific period of time, but the employer provides them with a task
which requires a further level of skills
and threatens for a replacement. In this situation, the employee has to go against his/her morals and engage in the work
knowing that they will not be productive enough. In this situation, the employer is forcing the employees to perform a task not
meant for them in turn for the continuation of their job, eventually engaging
in an unethical practice. An unethical practice often encourages another unethical
behavior, such as resulting in sexual harassment in the workplace and bullying.
