In 1951, the European Union wascreated. The European has gone a long way to develop its state over the past 50years. Up until 50 years ago, the European Union was the symbol of nationalsovereignty, state rivalry and war.
In 1945, the states of the EU were stuck ina huge warfare. In just the twentieth century, two world wars left thecontinents with a mass disaster. Leaving people without homeless, food and somuch more. Today the EU has approximately 500 million citizens and haveregained a lot of strength back. Avalonshould join the European Union because they have a strong gross domesticproduct; which is the size of a state’s annual economic activity, the EU has afree trading among members, and they also have a strong commitment to humanrights. Having a stable gross domestic product is greatresource to have because it is the main measure of the health of the economy.
European Union’s growth domestic product is 2.9 which is the ideal rate. Avalonalready has a high GDP, but with the EU also have a high GDP, then together it wouldmake it higher and better. I am seeing this as a neoliberalism.International relations: brief seventh edition. Longman, 2005.
Glossary statesthat “neoliberalism is another method that enhances the importance ofinternational institutions; which reduces the inherent conflict that realistsassume in the international system.” Coming together as one also makes thecountry stronger in case of any war or any crisis that might occur. The European union has a free trading. In current time the European union is now associated with the European FreeTrade Association. The EFTA is an intergovernmental organization that works topromote free trade and economic integration. The members in this association are Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland.Even though no state has a perfect record of humanrights and every single state differs in the areas that they respect orviolate, the EuropeanUnion has a strong committed human rights act that is very useful to have. Theyhave been working to better the rights of women, children, minorities and even restricting the death penalty.
There are even other countries that want to join the European Union bychanging their ways. In chapter sixlesson three of Revel Pearson, it states that even Turkey has abolished thedeath penalty so they can try to win the EU membership. According to the Revel Pearson dictionary, human rights are “The rightsof all people to be free from abuses such as torture or imprisonment for theirpolitical beliefs, and to enjoy certain minimum economic and socialprotections.”In conclusion, Avalonshould join the European Union because the EU has a strong GDP, has a freetrade system and have a strong human rights system. The EU has the ability toreduce custom tariffs in a bilateral trade. Which is a good thing because ithelps with items that can become cheaper. As a neoliberalist seeing the EU bestrong in many areas it benefits my country.
Since the European Union has astrong human rights act, this is exactly what my country needs in order to beready to take in a lot of refugees. Many people want to have equal human rightsand the EU has them. I would want my people and the refugees arriving to my countryto feel safe and secure. I believe that coming together would be the best forboth countries. We are both beneficial from each other.
