In the novel To kill a mockingbird and the film, A time to Kill both stories take place in southern America where racism is very active. Jake and Atticus are loyal to both cases and who they are defending because they believe it’s the right thing to do. Jake and Atticus showed their loyalty in what they believe in. Jake Brigance expressed justice to black people through a story and Atticus Finch expressed justice to black people through the law. The main idea that was found was to show them that regardless of the color we are the same and you shouldn’t judge with racism. Jake: “and until we can see each other as equals, justice is never going to be evenhanded.

It will remain nothing more than a reflection of our own prejudices”. Jake said this to convince the jury that they don’t have to judge Haper Lee by his color. Atticus also explains that in all courts everyone should be treated equally and he tries to change the viewing and persuade the jury’s he says “Now I am confident that you gentlemen will review without passion the evidence that you have heard, come to a decision, and restore this man to his family”. He is hoping that the jury will change because they see a colored community coming together to defend an innocent man. When they are saying the speech they both use hand movements and taking pauses when they speak and they give expression to the jury’s to allow them to feel what the defendant is feeling. Although there is a lot of similarities between both speeches there is some difference’s example Jake uses a story and to make the jury to feel like it’s their child and Atticus uses facts and the law to the jury. Jakes says “Now I wanna tell you a story. I’m gonna ask ya’all to close your eyes while I tell you this story.

I want you to listen to me. I want you to listen to yourselves.” By him making the jury do this he is putting the jury in Haper Lee point of view and he is making them feel like it’s their own kid being raped. Also at the end of it, he said “Can you see her? I want you to picture that little girl.

Now imagine she’s white”. This made the jury open up their eyes because just because the girl was a black it made them nit feel back but since jake put them in that situation it made them think twice. Atticus said, “It has relied instead upon the testimony of two witnesses whose evidence has not only been called into serious question on cross examination, but has been flatly contradicted by the defendant.

” He is using facts to the jury that is a difference from jakes because Atticus strategy was evidence not using things that happened. The most important thing is that both courts fought against racist jury and got justice.   Jakes Brigance’s final court speech impressed me because Brigance delivers a closing argument in a packed courthouse. His closing argument was fantastic and was well spoken and was the climax of the entire movie. During his closing argument, Jake Brigance instructs the jury members to close their eyes, And told them a story and the story was about Harper Lee’s daughter getting raped by those two men.

This story made the jury’s realize that if it was your kid you would have done what Harper Lee has done to those two men for raping his 10-year-old daughter, And at the end, he said “Can you see her? I want you to picture that little girl. Now imagine she’s white.” he said the because the people didn’t care because it was a black girl. ” I set out to prove a black man could receive a fair trial in the south, that we are all equal in the eyes of the law.  ” I like how he said that because at the end he got justice with a racist jury. Also ” I’m gonna ask ya’all to close your eyes while I tell you this story. I want you to listen to me.

I want you to listen to yourselves.” I like how he told them to close their eyes so they can imagine what’s happening instead of them just thinking that I was okay for what those two guys did Harper lee’s 10-Year-old daughter and it put them in Harper Lee’s shoes. Sometimes you have to make other people imagine what happened for them to understand what Harper Lee had to do to those two guys.
