Imagine a world where nothing is the same where all religions are changed. Christianity isn’t the main religion without Akhenaten, the Roman Empire could still be ruling. Akhenaten and Nefertiti are one of the most historic Egyptian king and queen pairs for many reasons. Nefertiti is most known for strongly supporting Akhenaten in his teachings. Akhenaten is most known for being the first monotheistic pharaoh and building the city of El-Amarna. Akhenaten was the first Monotheistic pharaoh nobody else in the history of mankind at that point had ever dreamed of turning Ancient Egypt into a Monotheistic kingdom. Akhenaten’s father Amenhotep III was the former ruler of Ancient Egypt and reigned for a long peaceful time. Therefore, everyone had thought there would be a smooth transition between Amenhotep III and Amenhotep IV and it did for 3 years, but Amenhotep IV believed in the sun disc god, Aten who had been becoming an increasingly popular god as time grew on. Amenhotep IV later changed his name to Akhenaten which means beneficial to Aten. Akhenaten taught that Aten was greater than all of the other gods and had started to drift away from the other powerful gods like Ra, Isis, Osiris, Set, Horus, etc. Akhenaten had also started to take away the monuments of other gods specifically Amun a form of the sun god Ra. Many Egyptian citizens did not believe in Akhenaten’s teaching and still praised the other gods. Many pharaohs have later tried to destroy Akhenaten’s monuments, also many pharaohs have tried to destroy the city of El Amarna the city Akhenaten created.Due to the fact that Akhenaten was the first monotheistic pharaoh many people in Thebes still did not believe in his teachings. To try and fix this problem Akhenaten decide to build a new city which would be the new capital city of Ancient Egypt the city was 200 miles north of Thebes and was made in honor of Aten. The city is currently called El Amarna by most. When Akhenaten first made this new city he decided to call the area Akhetaten which means horizon of Aten. Akhetaten was originally supposed to be the city of praise for Aten but never actually became what Akhenaten wanted the city to be. The Akhenaten and Nefertiti period is often called the Amarna period because the pair built the city. Akhetaten soon became less populated because Tutankhamun moved the capital city back to Thebes. The famous King Tut was the successor of Akhenaten. Though he is not known for doing many acts as a pharaoh he is famous for what most people believe as the curse of his tomb. Tutankhamun was also the son of Akhenaten and Akhenaten’s sister which is why he became the next pharaoh of ancient Egypt. Tutankhamun was also the son in law of Akhenaten, he married Akhenaten’s daughter Ankhesenamun which would mean they were cousins. Tutankhamun original name was Tutankhaten which means life of Aten and was a name given to him by his father Akhenaten. Tutankhamun became pharaoh at the age of 9 years soon after Akhenaten’s death and the small rule of Smenkhkare. He was king from about 1332 BC to 1322 BC around the time of his death. Tutankhamun did not believe in Monotheism like Akhenaten did instead he believed in polytheism. Tutankhamun moved the capital back to Thebes and many people became polytheistic since many people still believed in polytheism.Nefertiti was the first wife of Akhenaten. Nefertiti is also believed to be the cousin of Akhenaten. Many historians also believe that Nefertiti was a Mitani princess. Nefertiti was one of the most beautiful wives of an Ancient Egyptian pharaoh. Nobody knows specifically what Nefertiti did as the wife of Akhenaten but there are many different theories. Some Ancient Egyptian images decrypt her as just a mysterious counterpart to her husband that did not do many important rituals, but other images show her having a more important role in temples making sacrifices to Aten. In the images showing Nefertiti as an important figure, she is wearing a unique headdress a tall, straight-edged, flat-topped blue crown possibly a connection to another god she believed in behind her husbands back. This is why nobody knows exactly what role Nefertiti had as queen of Egypt. No matter what Nefertiti’s role was she was a big supporter of her husband Akhenaten. Nefertiti and Akhenaten were a great pair and together they had many children.Akhenaten and Nefertiti had 6 children all 6 of them were girls. All of them were princesses and two were going to be queens of Egypt. After Akhenaten’s 10th year as king, Nefertiti and Akhenaten had started to drift away. Akhenaten had remarried another princess named Kiya. That was only the start of the monumental drift between Akhenaten and Nefertiti. After Akhenaten’s 12th year as king, one of his six daughters died. Later three of the other princesses disappeared. After 4 of the princesses had gone missing, Nefertiti vanished leaving Akhenaten alone. There were many theories for the death of Nefertiti but none will ever be proven true until Egyptologists find the body of the queen. Some say that she just died, but why would her tomb not be located in Akhetaten? Early Egyptologists say that she moved away from Akhenaten and later died but, this has now been proven incorrect. The last common theory was that she outlived her husband, changed her name to Smenkhkare but this has been proven incorrect due to the fact that she was a woman and Smenkhkare had a masculine body shape. None of these theories have been proven true and all of the theories have many questions about them.Akhenaten and Nefertiti are one of the most historic Ancient Egyptian king and queen pairs. Both affected Ancient Egyptian history and should be remembered for the events like making Ancient Egypt monotheistic and building the city of El-Amarna. Akhenaten and Nefertiti should also be remembered for the way they met their demise. Akhenaten dying and soon losing the monotheistic kingdom and Nefertiti who disappeared and whose body has never been found.
