Molly Cantor “The Monkey’s Paw” and “The Third Wish” are very alike in many ways. They both have three wishes. There are both good things that happen and bad things that happen. Also they can be very different. The people, place and how the wishes are given.
The mood, theme and resolution can be different and that’s what I am going to tell you about. The mood in “The Monkey’s Paw” is very different from the mood in “The Third Wish”. “The Monkey’s Paw” is scary because of page 99. A rush of cold wind rushed up the staircase, and a long loud wail of disappointment and misery came from his wife gave him courage to run to her side, and to the gate beyond”. The mood in “The Third Wish” is sad because of pages 107 and 105. “But I miss the old life in the forest, the cool grass and the mist rising off the river at sunrise and the feel of the water sliding over my feathers as my sister and I drifted along the stream”. “Mr.
Peters was found peacefully dead in his bed with a smile on his face.In between his hands which lay clasped on his breasts were a withered leaf and a white feather”. Both story’s had bad things happen to them because of the wishes. They both get three wishes.
“He put a spell on it so that three separate men could each have three wishes from it”. “I expect three wishes, no more and no less. ” That was on pages 88 in “The Monkeys Paw” and 102 on “The Third Wish”. Also on page 9 and 105 both story’s take back one of the wishes they had made. The story’s end oddly.
“The Monkey’s Paw” ended oddly and bad.On page 99 of “The Monkey’s Paw”, “The door opened a cold wind rushed up the staircase”. “The Third Wish” ended sweetly. On page 107 a lot happened that I thought was very sweet.
“In the morning Mr. Peters was found peacefully dead with a smile of great happiness on his face”. “In between his hands, which lay clasped on his breast, were a withered leaf and white feather. That is why I think the two stories are very alike. They both have similar problems and items that happen in them. The differences are also very different.
