January 12th 2010 4:53PM, the phone rang….
Hispaniola whom which I call Haiti was bawling. Her heart, Port-au-prince, was completely ruined, she bleed and bleed and heard the bones intensively crashing brutally against each other until they converted into ashes. Her green dress metamorphosed into a white costume, her veins and arteries were ripped… she had no shelter. Once she realized that her brain was damaged, a depression impulsively engulfed her body and left her with nothing more than a reprieving sound that whispers” Help”.For this cause, I played a concrete role in the reconstruction of Haiti by founding an school organization for aiding intentions, educating and helping the Haitians Students survivors in the US, and providing assistance to the country in the near future, using my careers. The day after the incident, I immediately went to the school council and asked permission to constitute an aiding group that could help Haiti.
We started to collect money all around the school during breakfast and lunch; we called the movement “Drop in the Bucket”. We raised 2,018. dollars on the first week which was significant; the movement grew gradually week after week until one day, I decided to expand it. I realized that a material could be recycled to provide the perfect shelter for Haiti like the vinyl tarps that are used for outdoor advertising. Some tarps measures more than 75 feet in length and can provide excellent shelters. We were able to ship a set of tarps in the mid February.
With the Sacred Heart delivery, nearly 10,000 square feet of shelter have been provided utilizing the recycled material. We also created a “Food and Toiletries Drive” where students were able to drop non-refrigerated food and bathroom utilities materials in the Media Center at any time. Fundraisings were also included, for purchasing toys, educational books, sleeping bags, batteries and many other utilities.
I figured that Haiti might not retrieve in one, two, three or maybe ten years, but my goal as a native Haitian was to try the best of my capability to aid as much as possible. Coming to a new country is not easy to adapt, one must accommodate to a new system, culture and language.Studying an academic subject in English for foreign students like Haitians, can be difficult and challenging; therefore I gathered a Study Group, whose goal was to create a more friendly and interacting era for people of the same race. I have decided to support earthquake victims by helping them in comprehending their homework, getting them involve in extracurricular activities, socializing them with other students pertaining a different language, getting them prepared for college to become future men and women of Haiti, and most of all, cheering them for positive attitude and success. My hope for them is to be optimistic, determined, persevered and enthusiastic.
These factors will lead to the creation of a new sagacious generation for the reconstruction of Haiti. My academic objective is to study in fields of Pharmacy and Mathematics. Haiti has lost many doctors, lawyers, architects and many more useful citizens; therefore it is my duty to serve the population by granting them medication and housing in the near future, whereas being a pharmacist might allay the rate of death and sickness.Pharmacists have proper training in preventing measures, maintenance therapies and supportive treatment. They can help prevent spread of disease by counseling and educating the population on maintaining hygiene during difficult times, correctly using water treatment systems such as chlorine tablets, and even administering vaccinations. All these actions can alleviate the toll on overflowing healthcare establishments by keeping as many people as healthy as possible.
Using mathematical reasoning, knowledge may be implied for the practice of architectural engineering. An architect may plan orphanages for foster children, schools for education, hospitals for healthcare, government capital buildings for regulation…
and much more. It has been discussed how the reconstruction of Haiti has been complete as a substantial role. The role required team work, corporation, and optimistic attitude. The discourse of future plans was also mentioned whereas the state capital buildings along with other major constructions are to be built. Our goal is to rejuvenate and regenerate the country as one united Republic, so that we will proudly call our mother “The Pearl of the Antilles”.
