The most famous of all, and some would say the start of the rivalry was Babe Ruth, some would say that when the Red Sox gave Babe Ruth to the Yankees, it was the beginning of the end for them.Better known as the Curse of the Bambino; that is when the Red Sox started they winless streak against the Yankees and their dominance in the AL pennant and World Series race.

Other players that have played for both teams were: Wade Boggs, Johnny Damon and Roger Clemens. All three have had impacts on the games outcomes between them. Both General Managers and owners were not afraid to spend the money on players that will help them beat each other, and make it through the season and on to the post season and win the World Series.

Mark Teixeira signed a contract for $180 million for 8 yrs.Alex Rodriguez also has a contract for over $150 million over a 6 yr period. So as you can see the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox rivalry has turned out to be one of the most intense in the entire sports world. There have some intense and physical fights between the two teams, from Pedro Martinez throwing down then assistant manager Don Zimmerman, to Roger Clemens fighting Manny Ramirez after being hit by a pitch.

This rivalry is what makes sports interesting and shows you the pride that these players have in their team’s history and future. As a fan of the Yankees, I enjoy every game that I watch between these two teams.
