Few years before Mary Dyer’s time there
was a group, called the Separatists, who had separated from the Mother Church
and gone to Holland. Later, when Mary was a young girl, the Separatists Pilgrims
sailed to the New world to a location they called Plymouth. Into Mary’s early
twenties, Mary’s wedding had specific elements that she deemed necessary and
religiously important to her. However, the Dyers began to contradict with their
administration. The people of the Christian church that had been inspiring the
Dyer’s were suspended and punished. Mary and William had issues with conforming
to a religion that they did not agree but there was no easy way to change this
status of religious conformity in England.
